2-Amino-3-(1h-Indol-3-Yl)-Propan-1-Ol is prescribed to reduce the size of the fibroids before the surgery. The female hormone progesterone is thought to play a role in the development of fibroids. 2-Amino-3-(1h-Indol-3-Yl)-Propan-1-Ol works by blocking the effects of progesterone. This stops the fibroids from growing and they shrink in size.

It is possible that 2-Amino-3-(1h-Indol-3-Yl)-Propan-1-Ol could reduce the size of the fibroids to enable less invasive surgery. For women who do not want surgery more research will be needed on repeated courses of ulipristal. Although a 10 mg dose was studied in the trials (see Table), 5 mg is the approved dose in Australia.

• Uterine artery embolization. Small particles (embolic agents) are injected into the arteries supplying the uterus, cutting off blood flow to fibroids, causing them to shrink and die.

2-Amino-3-(1h-Indol-3-Yl)-Propan-1-Ol acetate has been studied as a treatment option for women who have fibroids and heavy bleeding. The majority of women treated with 2-Amino-3-(1h-Indol-3-Yl)-Propan-1-Ol stopped having periods altogether.

Foods to avoid if you have fibroids

• table sugar.
• glucose.
• dextrose.
• maltose.
• corn syrup.
• high fructose corn syrup.
• white bread, rice, pasta, and flour.
• soda and sugary drinks.

2-Amino-3-(1h-Indol-3-Yl)-Propan-1-Ol [Ulipristal acetate (UPA)], a selective progesterone receptor modulator, when taken as a single 30-mg dose, is safe and effective for emergency contraception up to 5 days (120 h) following unprotected intercourse. This indication has been approved in Europe since May 2009 and was approved by the US FDA in August 2010.

When given within 72 hours of unprotected sexual intercourse, 2-Amino-3-(1h-Indol-3-Yl)-Propan-1-Ol is at least as effective as levonorgestrel, with pregnancy rates of 0.9 to 1.8 percent.

2-Amino-3-(1h-Indol-3-Yl)-Propan-1-Ol is used by women to prevent pregnancy after birth control failure (such as a broken condom) or unprotected sex. This medication is an emergency contraceptive and should not be used as a regular form of birth control. It works mainly by preventing the release of an egg (ovulation) during your menstrual cycle.

There have been no published cases of pregnancy, while on therapy with 2-Amino-3-(1h-Indol-3-Yl)-Propan-1-Ol.

If heavy bleeding continues beyond 10 days of treatment with this medication, contact your doctor. Menstrual periods usually return within 4 weeks of stopping this medication.

2-Amino-3-(1h-Indol-3-Yl)-Propan-1-Ol is available as a 30-mg tablet and requires a prescription. It is administered as a single dose within 120 hours of unprotected intercourse.

Uterine fibroids may affect your fertility. They may also impact your ability to carry a pregnancy successfully. However, most women will experience no fertility issues or pregnancy complications as a result of these tumors.

The efficacy of UPA-EC was significantly better when administered before than after ovulation. Levonorgestrel (LNG) is effective as EC only when administered before, but not after ovulation.

When unprotected intercourse and the administration of ulipristal occur at or within 24 hours of ovulation, then 2-Amino-3-(1h-Indol-3-Yl)-Propan-1-Ol has an abortifacient action.

2-Amino-3-(1h-Indol-3-Yl)-Propan-1-Ol is a selective progesterone receptor modulator with antagonistic and partial agonistic effects (a progesterone agonist/antagonist) at the progesterone receptor. It binds the human progesterone receptor and prevents progesterone from occupying its receptor.

After taking the tablet, it is normal for your next period to be a few days late. However, if your period is more than 7 days late; if it is unusually light or unusually heavy; or if you experience symptoms such as abdominal (stomach) pain, breast tenderness, vomiting or nausea, you may be pregnant.
