TROBICINE
TROBICINE Uses, Dosage, Side Effects, Food Interaction and all others data.
TROBICINE binds to 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, thus inhibiting protein synthesis. It has modest activity against a wide range of gm+ve and gm-ve organisms, though anaerobic organisms are mostly resistant.
TROBICINE is an aminocyclitol antibiotic produced by a species of soil microorganism designated as Streptomyces spectabilis. In vitro studies have shown spectinomycin to be active against most strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae (minimum inhibitory concentration <7.5 to 20 mcg/mL). Footprint studies indicate that spectinomycin exerts regional effects on ribosomal structure.

Uses
TROBICINE Sterile Powder is used for the treatment of:
- Acute gonorrheal urethritis and proctitis in the male
- Acute gonorrheal cervicitis and proctitis in the female
- Men and women with known recent exposure to gonorrhea should be treated as those known to have gonorrhea.
How TROBICINE works
TROBICINE is an inhibitor of protein synthesis in the bacterial cell; the site of action is the 30S ribosomal subunit. It is bactericidal in its action.
Dosage
TROBICINE dosage
Adults (Men and Women): Inject 5 ml intramuscularly for a 2 gm dose. This is also the recommended dose for patients being treated after failure of previous antibiotic therapy
Intramuscular injections should be made deep into the upper outer quadrant of the gluteal muscle.
TROBICINE Sterile 2 grams Powder: Reconstitute with 3.2 ml of the accompanying water for injection with 0.9% Benzyl alcohol. Shake vials vigorously immediately after adding diluent and before withdrawing dose.
Side Effects
The following reactions were observed during the single dose clinical trials: soreness at the injection site, urticaria, dizziness, nausea, chills, fever and insomnia
Toxicity
Acute oral toxicity (LD50): >5000 mg/kg [Rat]. Information on overdosage in humans is not available.
Precaution
The usual precautions should be observed with atopic individuals. Prescribing TROBICINE Sterile Powder in the absence of a proven or strongly suspected bacterial infection or a prophylactic indication is unlikely to provide benefit to the patient and increases the risk of the development of drug-resistant bacteria
Interaction
May result in lithium toxicity when used concurrently. May increase or prolong the neuromuscular blocking effect of atracurium.
TROBICINE Disease Interaction
Elimination Route
Rapidly and almost completely absorbed after intramuscular injection.
Half Life
1 to 3 hours in patients with normal renal function and 10 to 30 hours in patients with impaired renal function with a creatinine clearance < 20 mL per minute.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding use
Pregnancy Category B. Since there are no controlled studies of TROBICINE in pregnant women, and because animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human responses, TROBICINE should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
Nursing Mothers It is not known whether this drug is excreted in human milk. Because many drugs are excreted in human milk, caution should be exercised when TROBICINE is administered to a nursing woman.
Contraindication
The use of TROBICINE Sterile Powder is contraindicated in patients previously found hypersensitive to it.
Acute Overdose
Information on overdosage in humans is not available. Hemodialysis has been reported to aid in the removal of intravenously administered TROBICINE from the body.
Storage Condition
Store between 20-25°C. Reconstituted solution should be used within 24 hr after preparation.

Can TROBICINE cure staphylococcus?
TROBICINE and Kanamycin were once effective against Staphylococcal infections. They have developed resistance by modifying enzymes, changing the ribosomal attachment sites and by actively pushing out the drug from the bacteria.
Is TROBICINE a plant?
TROBICINE formulations used in plant agriculture are produced using Streptomyces griseus subsp. griseus, which carries strA for self-resistance to the antibiotic.
Who should not take TROBICINE?
The risk is higher if you have kidney disease, if you are receiving high doses of this medication, if you use this drug for a long time, if you are an older adult (older than 60 years), or if you develop a severe loss of body water (become dehydrated).
Is TROBICINE an antifungal?
TROBICINE is an antibiotic antifungal drug, an antibiotic fungicide and a member of TROBICINE.

TROBICINE is an aminoglycoside antibiotic derived from Streptomyces griseus that is used in the treatment of tuberculosis and sensitive Gram-negative infections.
What bacteria does TROBICINE target?
TROBICINE is an antibiotic that inhibits both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, and is therefore a useful broad-spectrum antibiotic.
Is TROBICINE effective against E coli?
TROBICINE treatment enhances the growth of E. coli by nitrate respiration.
Why is TROBICINE so effective?
TROBICINE is an effective antibiotic because its structure is similar to that of the anticodons that would usually bind to the ribosome.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Since TROBICINE is usually administered as a single injection, missing dose is not likely to occur.
What happens if I overdose?
Seek emergency medical attention if an overdose of spectinomycin is suspected.
