How Anusol Soothing Relief works

Benzyl alcohol inhibits lice from closing their respiratory spiracles, allowing the vehicle to obstruct the spiracles and causing the lice to asphyxiate.

Benzyl benzoate exerts toxic effects on the nervous system of the parasite, resulting in its death. It is also toxic to mite ova, though its exact mechanism of action is unknown. In vitro, benzyl benzoate has been found to kill the Sarcoptes mite within 5 minutes.

Lanolin is an emollient. Emollients soften the skin by forming an occlusive oil film on the stratum corneum layer of the epithelium, thus decreasing the transepidermal water loss .

It acts by providing a physical barrier to prevent skin irritation and help heal damaged skin.
