Calamine has mild astringent and antipruritic actions. Zinc oxide has astringent, soothing and protective properties and is used in topical preparations for eczema, slight excoriations, wounds and haemorrhoids. It also reflects ultraviolet radiation and can be used as a physical sunscreen.

Use this medication on the skin only. Follow all directions on the product package, or use as directed by your doctor. Shake the bottle well before using. Uses

This medication is used to relieve pain, itching, and discomfort from minor skin irritations such as poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac. It also helps to dry the oozing and weeping caused by irritation due to these plants.

Calamine BP is also used to associated treatment for these conditions: Acute Wounds, Burns first degree, Burns second degree, Dermatitis, Eczematous, Diaper Rash, Herpes Labialis, Injuries to the Nipple (Fissures and Cracks) Resulting Breastfeeding, Intertrigo, Pain, Pruritus, Sensitive Skin, Skin Irritation, Skin candida, Sunburn, Wounds, Chafing, Damaged skin, Dry, cracked skin, Facial rash, Heat rash, Superficial Wounds, Watery skin lesions, Astringent, Nutritional supplementation

How Calamine BP works

It acts by providing a physical barrier to prevent skin irritation and help heal damaged skin.

Adult: Apply 3-4 times daily for 3-5 days.

Side Effects

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

Toxicity

Acute oral toxicity (LD50): 7950 mg/kg [Mouse].

For external use only. Not to be used on open wounds or burns.
