Catron is an irreversible and nonselective monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) of the hydrazine chemical class that was used as an antidepressant in the 1960s. In addition, it was used for the treatment of other conditions, such as angina pectoris and schizophrenia. Catron was withdrawn by its manufacturer due to its ability to cause toxicity in the liver and its ability to cause optic neuritis.
