Uses
For the treatment of bacterial infections caused by susceptible microorganisms.
How Cefonicido works
Cefonicido, like the penicillins, is a beta-lactam antibiotic. By binding to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall, it inhibits the third and last stage of bacterial cell wall synthesis. Cell lysis is then mediated by bacterial cell wall autolytic enzymes such as autolysins.
Cefonicido Hypertension interaction
[Moderate] Parenteral cefonicid sodium contains approximately 85 mg (3.7 mEq) of sodium per each gram of cefonicid activity.
The sodium content should be considered in patients with conditions that may require sodium restriction, such as congestive heart failure, hypertension, and fluid retention.
