Limeciclina
Limeciclina Uses, Dosage, Side Effects, Food Interaction and all others data.
Limeciclina is a tetracycline derivative which blocks the access of bacterial aminoacyl-tRNA to the mRNA-ribosome complex by binding to the 30S ribosome subunit, preventing the addition of amino acids to the growing peptide chain in protein synthesis
Limeciclina, like other tetracyclines, exerts bacteriostatic actions on intracellular and extracellular bacteria, treating susceptible bacterial infections. It has been shown to be safe and effective in the treatment of moderate to severe acne.
It is important to note that like other tetracyclines, lymecycline may cause esophageal irritation and ulceration, which can be prevented by drinking adequate fluids during administration. It also has the potential to cause photosensitivity. Limeciclina can lead to renal tubular acidosis or hepatic toxicity. It is not recommended to administer this drug in patients with renal disease or severe hepatic disease.

Uses
Limeciclina capsules belong to a group of medicines called tetracycline antibiotics. It is used to treat acne which appears as blackheads or whiteheads, which people often refer to as pimples or spots. This medicine can also be used to treat other infections, such as:
- Acute sinusitis
- Bronchitis
- Infections in the abdomen
- Some types of eye infections called trachoma
- Soft skin infections
Limeciclina is also used to associated treatment for these conditions: Acne Vulgaris, Susceptible Bacterial Infections
How Limeciclina works
Normally, the ribosome synthesizes proteins through the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the mRNA-ribosome complex. Limeciclina binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit, preventing amino-acyl tRNA from binding to the A site of the ribosome, which prevents the elongation of polypeptide chains. This results in bacteriostatic actions, treating various infections.
Dosage
Limeciclina dosage
Adults and children over 12 years:
- Acne: the normal dose is one capsule once a day, preferably in the morning. Limeciclina capsules should always be taken with a glass of water. How long you will have to take Limeciclina capsules for will depend on how quickly your condition improves. For acne this will normally be a minimum of eight weeks.
- Infections: For other infections the usual dose is one Limeciclina capsule twice a day. Your doctor may recommend a higher or lower dose; this depends upon the type and severity of the infection. Ask your doctor if you are unsure. Limeciclina capsules should always be taken with a glass of water.
Use in children and adolescents: Limeciclina capsules are not recommended for use in children under 12 years of age as they can cause permanent discolouration of tooth enamel and affect bone development.
Should be taken on an empty stomach. Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals.
Side Effects
Limeciclina capsules may also cause the followingside effects.
Common (occur in less than 1 in 10 patients):
- Feeling sick (nausea)
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhoea
- Headache
Unknown (frequency cannot be estimated fromavailable information):
- Eyesight disturbances
- Dizziness
- Being sick (vomiting)
- Yellowing of eyes or skin (jaundice)
- Increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight (real or artificial)
- Increased pressure in the brain
- Changes in type or number of certain blood cells
- Pain in the upper part of the abdomen
- Changes in some blood tests (liver function tests)
- Fever
- Itchiness, skin rash, or hives
- Inflammation of the intestine
Toxicity
The oral LD50 of lymecycline in rats is 3200 mg/kg. Overdoses with lymecycline are rare. In the case of an overdose, gastric lavage should be performed immediately. Provide supportive treatment and maintain fluid balance.
Precaution
Patient with myasthenia gravis. May exacerbate SLE. Hepatic impairment.
Interaction
Decreased absorption with Ca, Al, Mg, bismuth and zinc salts, antacids, bismuth containing ulcer-healing drugs, Fe preparations and quinapril. Increased effects of anticoagulants. Decreased plasma levels with barbiturates, phenytoin or carbamazepine.
Food Interaction
- Take with or without food.
Volume of Distribution
Limeciclina is lipophilic and easily crosses the cell membrane and passively diffuses through bacterial porin channels. As a second-generation tetracycline, the concentration in the bile ranges from 10 to 25 times higher than plasma concentration. In general, the volume of distribution of tetracyclines ranges from 1.3–1.7 L/kg or 100–130 L.
Elimination Route
Limeciclina is 77-88% absorbed after oral administration with a relative bioavailability of 70%. The Cmax of lymecycline is 2.1 mg/L and is achieved about 3 hours after administration. The AUC is 21.9 ± 4.3 mg·h/L.
Half Life
The half-life of lymecycline is approximately 8 hours.
Clearance
Limeciclina is partially cleared by the kidneys, like other tetracyclines.
Elimination Route
Limeciclina is 25% eliminated in the urine. Based on being a member of the tetracycline drug class, fecal elimination is likely another route of elimination.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding use
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. Limeciclina capsules must not to be taken if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Use of medicines such as Limeciclina capsules may affect the proper growth of developing teeth or bones, and lead to permanent tooth discolouration.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to lymecycline or other tetracyclines. Overt renal insufficiency. Pregnancy and lactation. Concomitant use with methoxuflurane or oral retinoids.
Storage Condition
Store below 25° C. Protect from light.
