A polyhydric alcohol with about half the sweetness of sucrose. D-Sorbit occurs naturally and is also produced synthetically from glucose. It was formerly used as a diuretic and may still be used as a laxative and in irrigating solutions for some surgical procedures.

Uses
D-Sorbit is a product that can be used as a laxative to relieve constipation, and also as a urologic irrigating fluid. May also be used as a pharmaceutical sweetener.
Used as a non-stimulant laxative via an oral suspension or enema.
D-Sorbit is also used to associated treatment for these conditions: Constipation, Constipation caused by Pregnancy, Occasional Constipation, Bladder irrigation therapy, Bowel preparation therapy, Preparation for rectoscopic or sigmoidoscopic examination
How D-Sorbit works
D-Sorbit exerts its laxative effect by drawing water into the large intestine, thereby stimulating bowel movements.
