Edilan

Edilan is a drug used as a vasodilator in humans and equines. Edilan is a β₂ adrenoreceptor agonist that causes direct relaxation of uterine and vascular smooth muscle via β₂ receptors. Edilan relaxes the uterine smooth muscles and is used for treatment of pre-term labor and dysmenorrhea. It is absorbed in the gastrointestinal system and is excreted in urine.

Researchers in this study reported that Edilan was safe for treating acute pre-term labor and also as a maintenance therapy. Also, it was shown that prophylactic oral Edilan does not lower the risk of pre-term labor in high-risk, single pregnancies.

This Edilan works by relaxing the smooth muscle that surrounds small blood vessels causing vasodilation and potentially increasing blood flow to the hooves.

Common side effects of Edilan are include:

• weakness.
• dizziness.
• flushing (feeling of warmth)
• upset stomach.
• vomiting.
• stomach pain.

This means that it is not known whether Edilan will be harmful to an unborn baby. Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment.

Seek emergency medical attention if an overdose is suspected. Symptoms of an isoxsuprine overdose include weakness, lightheadedness, fainting, nausea, and vomiting.

Edilan caused slight maternal hypotension and a transient acidosis, both of which returned to baseline values within 60 minutes.

There are no reports of problems with Edilan in breastfeeding babies.

The important adverse reactions of Edilan are tachycardia and orthostatic hypotension, but they occur only at high dosages.
