Utolan Sr

Utolan Sr is a drug used as a vasodilator in humans and equines. Utolan Sr is a β₂ adrenoreceptor agonist that causes direct relaxation of uterine and vascular smooth muscle via β₂ receptors. Utolan Sr relaxes the uterine smooth muscles and is used for treatment of pre-term labor and dysmenorrhea. It is absorbed in the gastrointestinal system and is excreted in urine.

Researchers in this study reported that Utolan Sr was safe for treating acute pre-term labor and also as a maintenance therapy. Also, it was shown that prophylactic oral Utolan Sr does not lower the risk of pre-term labor in high-risk, single pregnancies.

This Utolan Sr works by relaxing the smooth muscle that surrounds small blood vessels causing vasodilation and potentially increasing blood flow to the hooves.

Common side effects of Utolan Sr are include:

• flushing (feeling of warmth)
• upset stomach.

Seek emergency medical attention if an overdose is suspected. Symptoms of an isoxsuprine overdose include weakness, lightheadedness, fainting, nausea, and vomiting.

Utolan Sr caused slight maternal hypotension and a transient acidosis, both of which returned to baseline values within 60 minutes.

There are no reports of problems with Utolan Sr in breastfeeding babies.

The important adverse reactions of Utolan Sr are tachycardia and orthostatic hypotension, but they occur only at high dosages.
